The Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose sermons have created firestorm of controversy, is no longer formally tied to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign, an Obama spokesman said late on March 14,2008.The move follows calls for Obama to sever connections to Wright after news outlets began airing some of the pastor's past sermons.
Among the more inflammatory remarks from Wright are suggestions the U.S. brought the Sept. 11 attacks on itself and that the government had a role in spreading the AIDS virus in the black community. Obama said he sharply condemns such comments and that he never heard those kinds of sermons from Wright. He also said he doesn't plan to leave the church. Sometimes change is tough and he has attended the church for over 20 years and I can understand why he does not want to leave, a mistake is just that/something that happened. The ideal that these comments are from 2001 and Obama is expected to remember them in 2008 is crazy. I mean he has manage to hear 364 different sermons, been in 21 democratic debates, and we have to count all his other obligations that he has participated in the past 7 years, wow. Who ever dug up this information is good, he really put sometime and effort in that task. Although is Obama wrong because of his Pastors opinions 7 years ago?
I feel that Obama did the right thing, he did not end his friendship but he had to cut his political ties with Wright or it would really hinder his chances of running for President.
