I have lost interest in this insanity, over and over again this bull keeps surfacing, is he a citizen? First off if he was born in another country and since he had an American born mother Obama would have dual citizenship. Lets look at the twist to all of this story in 1960 when he was born, the individuals in Hawaii new he was going to be the man 50 years in the future. So the fix as been going on for years now.

Lets forget when he went to college and his documents showing that he was not a citizen the college would not revealed. Even the Hawaiian government refuses to expose Obama's citizenship simply because he was black. Lets forget all that pertinent information and lets just say that the passport that he has is invalid. One of the most significant pieces of identification that any American can have, is a lie?

Okay wake up people, I don't think that Obama is getting a pass because he is black. Did anyone in this group have any common sense, maybe just maybe he is a citizen? The evolution of the black man from slavery till now with lynching and discrimination seems so clear to me no... That the only pass he has received is this, he has been the best he could be and it has allowed him to go farther than any black man in history, to the top!

Python Hunt Under Way in Fla. Everglades

A program to eradicate pythons from the Florida Everglades is beginning.

Friday is the first day herpetology experts with a permit will be allowed to search for and euthanize the pythons, which are not native to the Everglades.

The number of pythons in South Florida has exploded over the past decade as pet owners released their snakes when they grew too large, reports CBS station WFOR in Miami. It's unclear how many pythons are prowling in the wild across South Florida, but state wildlife officials estimate there are at least tens of thousands.

They reproduce 50 to 100 eggs when they lay the eggs. They have the ability to withstand different temperatures so there's a possibility they could move north. So now is the time to get started on this and try to prevent it before it becomes even a bigger problem," explained Behnke.

The first phase of the python hunting program will last about three months.

There is nothing more vicious than a wild Python. These snakes don't eat often but when they do your dogs and cat and small children are no match for these constrictors. I personally am not a snake fan as a matter of fact I am scared of them, to the point that I would hurt myself trying to run from one of them. Although let me say this the one thing that would make me face any snake would be the danger that one would present to my family. I know then that it would be an option of killed or be killed.

Snakes offer so much of a benefit by getting rid of rodents but these kind of killers don't need to be loose in the United States. The aggression level will eventually come back and when it does these snakes become death machines!

Nas claiming that he was paid more than Kelis is claiming

Nas has fired back in his bitter divorce case with Kelis claiming he's paid her more than she says and he makes less than she thinks.

For starters, Kelis claims Nas raked in $11 million for his album deal. Nas fired back in legal papers, "I did not receive even half that amount"... claiming it's more like $4 mil. Nas claims his income is declining, and he's only pulling in $147,165 a month.

As for what he spends ... $71,371.96 a month, which includes $10,000 a month in clothing/hair/toiletries/personal effects.

Kelis, who is about to give birth to their child, claims Nas hasn't paid a penny for child or spousal support since he left her. Nas, who says he wants to be "fully involved" in the parenting of their child, claims he's agreed to pay $350 for a stroller, $450 for a baby sling and $1,598 for two cribs.

Nas thinks $5,000 a month is reasonable for child support since the kid will just be a newborn.

Unfortunately Nas you must realize that it would have been cheaper to keep her. No matter what the situation was or is, we all have to deal with woman in one way or another. I personally feel for you since I know what its like to have to part ways with someone that I was once in love with... Now the difference is that you may still have love for that person but the level of sacrifice that you were once willing to take is gone. I have come to a great realization that you must still continue to provide for her and your children. I know that the child support system is not the greatest and as many flaws on how they calculate what is suppose to be paid, I think that advance trig is easier.

Lets look at it from this perspective if she is happy, it keeps your ass out of the news, come to a conclusion that you need to pay up and do it!

Troy Neel could run but he could not hide, 8 years later and $725,000 dollars in back child support.

A sentencing hearing was scheduled Friday for one of the state's most wanted child support evaders.

Former pro baseball player Troy Neel was arrested in December for not paying child support.

He owes more than $725,000 for more than eight years of missed payments.

Neel used to play baseball for the Oakland A's and professionally in Japan.

He's charged with fleeing the country to avoid paying.

He could serve up to two years in prison.

Now before you make comments about how it's too much money, you should look at the whole picture. When Neel and his wife divorced, he was a pro ball player who decided to leave the US and buy a resort in a country that had no extradition agreement with the US. coincidence? I don't think so ... plus that $725k number is not only the 8 years of non-payment on his end, but also the interest and court costs accrued while he was gone on permanent vacation. I think that it is a pile dung that the court will earn $10,000 dollars or more simply because the wife filed a claim... The child should benefit not the city!

Neel fleed to Vanuatu a small chain of islands located about 1,000 miles east of Australia. Neel's tropical resort is surrounded by white sandy beaches, features a restaurant overlooking a lagoon and has the country's only full-service spa, according to its Web site. ... he and his new wife lived and operated a 21 room resort on a 16 acre island, he hosted fishing tournaments and oh ... and he owns the flip pin' island too! for the 8 years he lived there, I'd bet he never saw his children. he was originally ordered to pay $5k a month for his 2 children, if he needed it modified to a smaller amount because he wasn't making the money he used to, then he could have petitioned the courts to do so and it would have been an easy process if he could prove he didn't make the money he had in the past.

Much of what Neel owes is from interest. The principal is more than $300,000, Assistant U.S. Attorney Bud Paulissen said.

Sustaita did not elaborate during the hearing over the amount he believes Neel owes. That is expected to be brought up during the sentencing hearing.

Neel is a Texas native who attended Texas A&M University. A San Antonio federal grand jury indicted him in 2005 on a charge of foreign travel to evade child support obligations. He was arrested at a Los Angeles airport in December as he got off a flight from Australia.

I honestly have no sympathy for a guy that refuse to not take care of his kids. Pay the mother if you don't do anything else, you may have beat the system, but you deserve everything that you are going to get!

What a name like Rashida Jones it would leave no definition in my mind that this was a black woman, although the closer that I look at her. Leaves me to believe that her mother liked Rashida!

Frank Hatley was just released from prison after he was jailed for not paying child support for a child that is not his:

Frank Hatley spent the past year in jail for being a deadbeat dad. But there’s one problem — Hatley doesn’t have any children. And, the “deadbeat” label doesn’t fit the 50-year-old either, his supporters say. After a hearing, Hatley was released from the Cook County Jail in south Georgia Wednesday afternoon, with the help of the Southern Center for Human Rights.

Superior Court Judge Dane Perkins ruled that Hatley was indigent and should not be jailed for not being able to make child support payments. Perkins postponed a decision on whether Hatley should have to make any more back payments on child-support for a child who is not his. In June of last year, a judge ordered Hatley to jail for failing to reimburse the state for public assistance that was paid to support his “son,” who, as the court was aware, is not actually his son.
The story dates back to 1986, when Hatley had a relationship with Essie Lee Morrison. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son. Morrison told Hatley that the child was his, but……the couple ended their relationship shortly after the boy’s birth, according to court documents. The couple never married and never lived together, the documents state.

When the boy turned 2, Morrison applied for public support for her son. Under Georgia law, the state can go after the non-custodial parent to recoup the assistance. For 13 years, Hatley made payments to the state until learning, in 2000, that the boy might not be his biological son. A DNA test

that year confirmed that there was no chance he was the father, according to court documents. Hatley returned to court and was relieved of any future child support reimbursement but was ordered to pay more than $16,000 that he had owed the state before the ruling.

Latesha Bradley, an attorney who represented Hatley in that hearing, told CNN the argument for keeping Hatley liable for the back payments was that he had signed a consent agreement with the office of child support services. The court agreed that Hatley had to comply with the consent agreement for the period that he believed the boy was his son.

Court documents show that Hatley for the most part continued to make payments. He was jailed for six months in 2006 for falling behind on payments during a period of unemployment, but afterward he resumed making payments and continued to do so even after he lost another job in 2008 and became homeless, court records state. Last year, he again became unable to maintain the payments and was once again jailed.

The circumstances of Hatley’s arrest didn’t feel right to many, including Cook County Sheriff Johnny Daughtrey. “I knew the gentleman’s plight and didn’t know how to help him,” Daughtrey told CNN. About two months ago, when attorneys from the Southern Center for Human Rights visited his jail, Daughtrey alerted them to Hatley’s case.

I really feel this guy got the shaft, but the amount of time that he established a relationship with the child became his enemy. The one thing that I think that should happen is that any woman found guilty committing fraud of this crime should be forced to repay all money that the man had to pay and if she refuse to pay lock her ass up! Deceiving someone to believe that he is the father is fraud and should be a crime! As a matter of fact it should be called the deception bill.

What a waste that the oldest mom is dead at 69

World's Oldest' Mom Gave Birth at 66, Dead at 69.

A Spanish woman believed to have become the world's oldest new mother when she gave birth at age 66 has died, leaving behind twin toddlers, newspapers reported Tuesday.

Maria del Carmen Bousada, who reportedly died Saturday at age 69, gave birth in December 2006 as a single mother after getting in vitro fertilization treatment.

She told an interviewer she lied to a California fertility clinic about her age, and maintained that because her mother had lived to be 101, she had a good chance of living long enough to raise a child.

Bousada's death was reported by the newspaper El Mundo and Diario de Cadiz. Cadiz is the southern province where Bousada lived her whole life.

Diario de Cadiz quoted her brother, Ricardo Bousada, as confirming her death but refusing to disclose the cause. The newspaper said she had been diagnosed with a tumor shortly after giving birth.

There was no word on who would raise the children, named Pau and Christian. Bousada had once said she would look for a younger man to help her raise them.

In January 2007, she told the British tabloid News of the World that she sold her house to raise $59,000 to pay for the in vitro fertilization.

What a waste is exactly what I think of this situation that this woman would subject her children to this kind of ludicrous behavior. Hell she knew she was old when she first decided to have these kids, to make matters worse she knew that she would not probably live to see them grow up. Now their is a woman that is 70 wanting to have kids, what?

I think that there should be a limit that a woman should even consider having more children. Unfortunately the one that will suffer the most will be the children!

Served Child Support Papers At Michael Jackson's Memorial?

Singer/producer Akon may be stacking millions of dollars, but according to reports, he is not sharing the wealth with one of his children. TMZ reported that the mother of one of Akon's children, has been trying to serve him child support papers but with no luck. The site also stated that she even went so far as to attempt to serve him during Michael Jackson's public memorial srevice, which he attended last week.

Akon what gives man, you don't want to pay? It is a sad day in bedrock when a man has millions of dollars and will not participate in taking care of his children. I feel so much pity for you as a man that will not take the responsibity of what you help to produce. I have learned that you need to take time to know the person that you go to bed with. You see that the kids are a product of both. If you have educated parents then you have educated children. If you have dumb parents then you may have dumb kids...
As a black man all you are doing is repeating the cycle that black familys seem to encounter, and that is the lack of a male figure in homes. If you have 5 kids by five different women, that means that there are 5 kids without a father in their home. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not taking the time to find the right person to have a family with, but I took on the responsibility of raising my children all by myself. Hey, it has not been easy but like your adventure as a solo artist, you know its not. Black men have such a negative stigma about who they are and what they stand for. We need to desperately work on changing this stigma that we created.This destructive behavor that the black man has exhibited as done nothing more than create pain in the black family.

Texting teen falls in manhole, will sue

Just how foolish does this sound and open man hole uncovered and a texting teen falls in. Was this young lady so engrossed in her text message that she was not paying attention to the world still functioning? Unfortunately she did not ask to get to get hurt, but maybe, just maybe she will not make the same mistake again. Bus and subway crashed have been the main reason that they have made a law against texting while driving. Now how can one be so dumb? I think that it is a shame that the city employee has made such a careless error by leaving an open manhole with out a caution sign around.
The city can contest this all they want but they will eventually settle out of Court... How can I be so sure? Simply because if you are in a restaurant and fall on a wet floor that did not have any caution signs, you would have the opportunity to sue that business and win!
I hope the young texter learns her lession, but even if she didn't she will get to limp all the way to the bank...

(CNN) -- There may be speculation about which judges will be returning to "American Idol" next season, but there's no question about one "Idol" regular: Host Ryan Seacrest is definitely back on board in a big way.

"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest has reportedly signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest closed Monday on a deal with CKX, parent company of "Idol" producer 19 Entertainment, worth $45 million over three years.

That figure reportedly triples the not-quite-$5 million annual salary he is said to have earned in the past for hosting the hit Fox music competition.

A post on his Twitter page stated that Seacrest was "very excited about locking in a deal to host idol for this season and the following 2," which was quickly followed by a tweet that said, "Lots of conversations going on behind the scenes but I fully expect you will see the whole team next year."

The lucrative contract further adds to Seacrest's empire, which includes a gig as a host of a popular syndicated radio show as well as duties for E! News and ABC's New Year's Eve special.

Forbes ranked him No. 44 in the 2009 Celebrity 100 -- its annual list of the most powerful celebs -- and dubbed him "the hardest-working man in entertainment," with an estimated pay of $38 million. I can only take my hat off to the genius of Marshall Bruce Mathers III, even though he is as they say a hard core rapper, he still manages to show a soft side of his personality. Just two weeks after Michael Jackson’s sudden death, chilling reports concerning the singer’s drug consumption are surfacing.

CNN obtained a confidential document from 2004, which claimed Jackson was known to take more than 10 Xanax pills per night. The singer allegedly asked his employees to seek out prescription's in their own names in order to obtain more drugs. The reports also claims that the singer would travel to out of state doctors for more pills.

On Thursday, Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton said police are looking into a number of doctors who provided care for Jackson over the years and are investigating his prescription drug history.

According to a source close to the Jackson family, they are aware the investigation into the cause of Jackson’s death could turn into a criminal case.

“The family is aware of a potential criminal prosecution,” the source said.

CNN’s chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta was surprised by the alleged amount of Xanax, which is meant for the treatment of panic disorders.

I realized that day when the news shocked the world that Michael Jackson had died, that there was more to his story, and as soon as he was laid to rest the world was going to see that it ain't over! Of course millions of people paid om age to the King, calling him a legend saying that he was the greatest entertainer ever. Unfortunately this is not the first mega superstar that we will loose to soon, and if, we are not willing to step up when they are alive, what good does it do when they're dead? McNair girlfriend shot him in his sleep because she felt he was cheating on her

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Former NFL star Steve McNair was shot dead in his sleep last week by a 20-year-old girlfriend distraught about mounting financial problems and her belief that he was seeing someone else, police said Wednesday.

I am surprised that McNair knew that his girlfriend was struggling and would not help her, then he even had the nerve to be cheating on her? Some women take cheating with a grain of salt, they know that it is happening but they deal with it. Then their are women who don't like to loose anything and would rather kill the man instead of loose their good thing.

Harry Potter star facing 14 years for drug charges

The 19-year-old actor will have to appear in court later this month for the charges stemming from an April arrest.

Waylett, who plays Potter bully Vincent Crabbe, was busted when cops pulled over his vehicle in London and allegedly found eight bags of marijuana. He was taken to a nearby police station before a team of officers raided his mother’s home in Camden, the Daily Telegraph reports.

A Metropolitan police spokeswoman said the actor would appear in court late this month and “is charged with producing a Class B drug, nearly ten plants of cannabis.”

The plants – valued at more than $3,000 – were allegedly found among DJ equipment and a Play station, the Telegraph said.

Waylett may face up to 14 years for cannabis production, while the maximum charge for cannabis possession is five years.

Unfortunately history is always repeating itself. These young idiots think that they are so smart. Is common sense not part of their protocol? Idaho Babysitter Accused of Having Sex With 14-Year-Old

POST FALLS, Idaho — An Idaho woman face charges that she had sex with a 14-year-old boy that she was hired to watch in August 2007.

KXLY-TV reported Tuesday that 28-year-old Summer Nelson, of Post Falls, was charged Monday with four counts of lewd conduct with a child.

Court records say Nelson was a friend of the boy's mother. Police say the abuse was reported in December 2008, after the boy's mother grew suspicious of Nelson's attention Nelson toward the boy.

Investigators say Nelson told the boy's siblings that she was in love with their brother. Detectives say Nelson and the boy had at least four sexual encounters.

Can anybody tell me what is going on in the world that these women are saying that they don't want men any more and are sleeping with kids? Maybe they lost part of there child hood and still think they are 14 too. Its blows my mind that 80% of the women that are caught up in these child molestation are attractive women and could have any man that they want. Unfortunately I would like to say throw the book at these women but in the back of my mind I feel that there are issues that have not been resolved. You see women have to be held accountable for the things that they are doing with these boys. So consensual sex is what it is but, my only issue is how do you sentence a woman for a crime that a man would get the book thrown at him!

Stepfather was sexually abusing his son for years

For years, a man regularly confined his adolescent stepson to a bedroom rigged with an alarm, molested him several times a week and often denied him food, water and access to a bathroom, authorities said.

The 17-year-old boy, who lived with his stepfather for nearly six years, told police Robert J. Pratt would smash his head into a wall when he resisted his advances and sent him to school in long-sleeved shirts and pants so no one would see his bruises and scars.

Pratt was being held without bail on sex assault charges, accusations that surprised acquaintances who know him as a quiet, helpful neighbor.

The boy came forward after Pratt, 37, of Bennington, kicked him out of the apartment they shared and he moved in with his mother, who lived in the same apartment complex.

I really despise the thought of this man abusing this child and no one had a clue. Whats said is that his mother lived in the same apartment complex and she was okay with her biological son living with her ex... In today's society woman have changed their views, and some even are okay with the children not living with them. When you think about it what if Bennington hadn't kicked him out of the apartment, would the sexual abuse still be going on?

L.A. lost $1.4Million performing service for jackson

The memorial service for singer Michael Jackson cost the city of Los Angeles $1.4 million, the mayor's office said. Costs included putting extra police on the streets, trash pickup, sanitation, traffic control and more for the Tuesday event, a spokeswoman said. The city, which is $530 million in debt, set up a Web page seeking donations to help with the expenses. This city has some nerve, they go all out to perform this mind blowing service to honor the king of pop then turn around and cry broke? Did someone put a gun to the mayors head saying he had to do it? CNN said over 1 billion people watched the service. Hotels, motels were sold out with people trying to be in the general area. I look at it like this if you do something from the good of your heart is great. Although if you expect to get paid for the good deed is crap. If the city of LA was okay with offering the services of extra police, trash pickup and traffic control then the city should be okay with eating the debt they created!

Michael Jackson's daughter touched the hearts of millions when she bid a tearful farewell to her father at his memorial service in a rare public appearance.

Police said Monday that 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi bought the handgun found under her body less than two days before the shooting.

They were found dead on the Fourth of July - McNair from two gunshots each to the head and chest, Kazemi from a single shot.

Kazemi appeared confident the pair would last and had introduced her family to McNair, her nephew said. Abdi quoted her as saying McNair was divorcing his wife and that it would be finalized soon.

A serial killer who terrorised a town in South Carolina has been shot and killed by officers, US police say.

Patrick Tracy Burris, 41, was killed when officers investigating an attempted burglary tried to arrest him.

Bullets in his gun reportedly matched those used in the murders, which saw five residents of the town of Gaffney shot and killed within a few days.

Police said Burris had a long criminal record and had been released on parole in April after serving eight years.

"Look at this," State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Chief Reggie Lloyd told a news conference, waving a copy of Burris's criminal record.

"This is like 25 pages. At some point the criminal justice system is going to need to explain why this suspect was out on the street."

Previous charges filed against Burris included larceny, forgery and breaking and entering in several states in the south-eastern US.

I despise the fact that this common criminal killed all those people but lets face it the man did do his time. Some people seem to believe that when a man or woman commits a crime that they are never suppose to leave the jail. That is a nice concept in never never land but in real life that's not how it goes.

Unfortunately I feel for the community they were not aware of the beast in side of this sicko. So now is it the the new thing to do, by convicting all carear criminals to life in prison because they were lost? Maybe we could rewrite the constitution to violate rights of all citizens we don't like? If that seems far fetched to you then how does a correctional facility owe anyone an explanation of releasing a man who completed his time?

Teacher Gives Sex Tape to 5th Graders

A local teacher accidentally put pornography into a DVD that was meant to be filled with school memories from the past year, and nobody caught the error until after it was sent home, shocking parents and students alike.

Parents of students who attend Isabelle Jackson Elementary said that the woman is a good teacher, but just made a mistake that may become the most embarrassing moment of their life.

The offending DVD starts with a menu screen that displays various school trips and functions, and when you click on one of them, you see kids in a classroom sharing stories. They start clapping, then the video suddenly cuts to sex.

Nothing could be more embarrassing for the teacher to have made such a careless error of not only copying her sexual escapades but then sending it home innocently with the children so that the childern and the parents could watch. I feel for the teacher for she can never have the same relationship with the parents or the childern especially if the video was really freaky.

American Idol had a tribute to Michael's music, they showed that show in April but in July since his death-they needed to show it again. America's Best Dance Crew did a tribute to Michael Jackson's dance moves 2 years ago, what they showed it again. CNN has dedicated 20 hours of a 24 hour day reporting on Michael. Dateline, 48 hours, 60 minutes and 20/20, is all this really necessary? I enjoyed Michael's music and he definitely was the king but this has the making of going on much longer than a week or possibly a month... Possibly months. So lets clear the air so you will know what I know.

He is not accused of a crime.
They did tow the doctors car away.
The police has question the doctor several times.

Sick of the Blame game... Why isObama never right

Everyday I listen to the blame game on how Obama is never right. The continuous battery of blame being laid in his lap is so sicking. No matter what the problem is, when its all said and done it always his fault. Now just listening to ABC,NBC, CBS, MSNBC or CNN you would never never get the same perception. As a matter of fact you might hear some form of praise for how the President and how he is trying to turn the economy around. Although if you listen to Fox or a Conservative talk show host such as Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill o'Reilly, Mark Levin, Ben Fergerson or the great Michael Salvage. They make the president seem like a complete idiot. These host make the president appear to be the dumbest man on the face of the earth! At one point in time he was the Messiah through their eyes, from his point of wiew. They want us to think that he really portrayed himself in that manner. I even heard him called a Chicago street thug, a empty suit, Giggles the clown, a socialist and even a dictator.

I do understand the essence of the blame game for it does help with ratings but I personally don't agree with much of what these genius have to say. I started listening purely by accident and day in and day out it is the same ole thing... Over and and over again. How do they keep getting away with saying what they say?p?

I don't agree with 98% of there thought but they do make you think. My problem with the blame game is this, no matter what they start talking about they always end up the same way. Michael Jackson died, Obama should not have sent a letter to his family. Iran election was ridged, Obama should tell the people that he will help. The nation is 11 trillion dollars in debt, if Obama hadn't signed all these laws in action we would not be in this shape. Unemployment is at a all time high, where is Obama's hope and change now? Kim Jun IL shot a rocket, Obama is a coward for not shooting down that rocket. They approved cap and trade, Obama has a deal with GE, so they are going to benefit from this big deal. Obama only wants to tax the rich, what about most of the people in congress aren't they all rich, also isn't Obama rich?

Okay, you get my drift. I don't expect any special treatment but really is all the blame for the problems of the world his?

Now we are so sad...

Now the world is paying tribute to Michael Jackson since he is gone. How quickly we have erased from our mind the cruel jokes we laid at Michael feet,Wacko Jacko, molester? Unfortunately the last things that were in Michael Jackson mind is "why do they treat me like this". I wish that the love that the world is laying at his feet today, could have been the love that we laid in his hands yesterday. No tribute today can ease the pain that he felt over the years of his life. He was born with a gift and he continued to share it with the world, why couldn't we see that the effect of fame and success and how it twisted his life.

When you think about it Michael had no real friends... No real relationships, no real love and when you think about it no real connection with his family. I knew Jackson had issues, but did it really change him from being a icon?. In reality its like a gay brother or strange uncle who you can't leave the kids around, somethings we just accept it for what it is. We never knew the debt of our jokes and snide remarks, we just knew that we wanted to express our mind. Sometimes things happens for a reason. So no matter how much love, envy or hate that we had in our heart the truth has to sink in, that what we once said can not be taken back.

Oddly enough the passing of the guards is coming more sooner than later. Wow I never thought that the day would come when I would see the king of Pop die. I thought that living a life as a old person was a gimme but now is it all a dream? I have seen so many super stars who life as ended so soon with no cause.

I suppose living our lives with the fast pace and forgetting to take care of ourselves may need to become a priority again? Eating healthy and exercising may be something we need to consider? Computer Failure At Fault In D.C. Crash?

(CBS/AP) Investigators looking into the deadly crash of two Metro transit trains focused Tuesday on why a computerized system failed to halt an oncoming train, and why the train failed to stop even though the emergency brake was pressed.

At the time of the crash, the train also was operating in automatic mode, meaning it was controlled primarily by computer. In that mode, the operator's main job is to open and close the doors and respond in case of an emergency.

Debbie Hersman, an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board, said it was unclear whether the emergency brake actually was engaged when Monday's crash occurred. The mushroom-shaped button that activates it was found pushed down in the operator's compartment.

Hersman said it was not clear when the button was pressed or how it got that way. She also cited evidence of braking on the train's rotors, indicating it was likely that the operator tried to slow down.

The train plowed into a stopped train ahead of it at the height of the Monday evening rush hour, killing nine people and injuring more than 70. It was the deadliest accident in the 30-year history of the Washington Metro.

Crews spent Tuesday pulling apart the trains' wreckage and searching for victims' bodies. Authorities worked to determine why the train's safeguards apparently did not kick in.

"That train was never supposed to get closer than 1,200 feet, period," said Jackie Jeter, president of a union that represents Metro workers.

All Metro trains were running on manual control as a precaution against computer malfunction.

The cars in the moving train were some of the oldest in the transit network, dating to the founding of the Metro system. read more
