He later pursued a career in radio broadcasting and started his career at a small station, WAHR (now WMBM), in Miami Beach. King gained local attention through his mid-morning show at Pumpernik's Restaurant in Miami Beach, where he interviewed anyone who walked in. His first celebrity interview was with Bobby Darin. King credited comedian Jackie Gleason for his success on local television, and he became a color commentator for the Miami Dolphins. In 1978, he began hosting a nightly coast-to-coast program on the Mutual Broadcasting System called The Larry King Show. King went on to host Larry King Live on CNN from 1985 to 2010, where he conducted over 50,000 interviews with various celebrities, politicians, and newsmakers. He won two Peabodys, an Emmy, and ten Cable ACE Awards during his career. King died on January 23, 2021.
